Miroslav Patrik (* 1963 in Michalovce , Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech geologist and environmental activist .

Life

Miroslav Patrik studied geochemistry and reservoir science at Masaryk University in Brno . In 1989 he co-founded the civil association Děti Země ( Children of the Earth ) and is currently its chairman. The association deals with traffic as an environmental problem and is systematically committed to sustainable transport offers. Miroslav Patrik actively intervenes in the decision-making processes of large transport structures, fights for the possibility of more citizen participation in transport projects and works as an environmental consultant.

Central areas of activity of Patrik are u. a. Detection and criticism of procedural deficiencies in the construction of the D 8 motorway (analogous on the German side: A 17 ) through the Bohemian Central Mountains , which are also expressed in environmental protection campaigns. He assesses the decisions and the decision-making process for this construction project as illegal and has initiated corresponding lawsuits. Due to his interventions, the construction of the D 8 has slowed down. His suggestion to lead the D 8 through a tunnel in the nature-protected part of the Bohemian Central Uplands was rejected.

In the documentary Dal nic about the construction of the D 8 motorway by the sociologist and director Ivo Bystřican , Miroslav Patrik also appears with his arguments.

Miroslav Patrik is the coordinator of national activities of the association as part of Děti Země, such as Den bez aut ( Car-free day ), Ropák roku and Zelená perla ( The green pearl ):

  • The Ropák roku is an anti-award for the most environmentally hostile act of the year in the Czech Republic. In 2014, this went to Head of State Miloš Zeman for the construction of the Danube-Oder-Elbe Canal .
  • The Zelená perla ( The Green Pearl ) is also an anti-award, for the stupidest anti-ecological quote or environmental degradation quote of the year in the Czech public. The first and three-time winner of the Zelená perla is Václav Klaus (1995, 2005 and 2007), neoliberal politician and former Czech head of state. Klaus is known for seeing global warming not as a result of human activity on earth, but as a harmless natural event. He described environmental protection as "eco-terrorism", u. a. in his book "Blue Planet in Green Shackles", and claimed that ecology is not a science, but a fad or an ideology . Klaus received the first Zelená perla for a quote he made on April 24, 1995 in the auditorium of the Palacký University in Olomouc : "Ecology is not a science. It has nothing in common with science. It is an ideology."
