Election as caliph

Mirza Masrur Ahmad was elected Khalifat ul-Massih V on April 22, 2003 in the Fazl Mosque in London . Mirza Masrur Ahmad is the successor to Caliph Mirza Tahir Ahmad, who died on April 19, 2003 . At the same time he is also the great-grandson of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad , the founder of the religious community. His father was named Mirza Mansur Ahmad, his grandfather Mirza Shareef Ahmad. He lives with his family in an apartment on the site of Britain's first mosque, the Fazl Mosque in London .

According to its own account, the caliphate represents a spiritual direction for Muslims all over the world. Since the establishment of the community, the Ahmadiyya caliphs have spoken out in favor of the separation of state and religion. In an interview in May 2015, Ahmad emphasized the difference between his caliphate and the terror “caliphates” of the so-called Islamic State or the Boko Haram group : “The caliphate of my community is based on the teachings of Islam and its established principles. I didn't set myself up. I resisted it more when I was awarded the caliphate. And the destiny of a caliph is placed in people's hearts by God. A secular caliphate, on the other hand, will be seized by force, ”he is supposed to have said. In addition, according to Ahmad, every caliphate is by definition linked to the mission of a prophet and referred to the founder of the community, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad .
