Mission is a municipality in Todd County in the US state of South Dakota . It is the largest parish in the Rosebud Indian Reservation , but not the largest settlement in the reservation area. The largest settlement in the area is Rosebud, the seat of the reserve administration. Mission is the seat of Sinte Gleska University , the tribal university of the Rosebud Reservation. Todd County High School is also in Mission.
The community was named after the many missionaries who cared for the Sicangu- Lakota - Sioux at the end of the 19th century . Mission's neighboring parishes are Antelope and White Horse. According to a 2010 census, there were 1,182 people in the municipality, divided into 398 households. Of these, 85.4% were members of the Indian tribe. The average age of the population is 23.2 years, 40.1% of the residents were under 18 years old. The annual per capita income is $ 11,374, which is one of the lowest incomes in the United States. 30.8% of the population live below the poverty line . The unemployment rate is 83%.
