history

First edition of the notices after the Second World War , 1965

In the first almost 20 years of its existence, the Association for the History of Berlin, founded in 1865, informed its members via circulars until it first published its communications in 1884. They were published monthly from 1884 to 1923, quarterly from 1924 to 1938, and three times a year from 1939 to 1943. From 1944 to 1964 there were no releases, then again quarterly. The publications represent "a treasure trove for everyone who researches the history of Berlin, because numerous topics of Berlin history were dealt with exclusively in the 'Mitteilungen'."

The booklets were published by ES Mittler & Sohn from 1884 to 1943, and have been self-published since 1965. In 1967 the image that is still typical today appeared on the cover sheet for the first time. The first color edition was also a special issue on the occasion of Rixdorf's anniversary in 2010. Its current layout was introduced in January 2016 with the 112th year.

The first person and subject index appeared in 1909 for the 25th year. Since 1965 the association has periodically printed the registers for four years each. The last one appeared in 2015 for the 107th (2010) to 110th year (2014).

Originally the Mitteilungen were supposed to be replaced by the magazine Berliner Geschichte , but they will still be published and can be viewed by the public.
