The Bear of Berlin - Yearbook of the Association for the History of Berlin is a scientific periodical on the history of Berlin that appears annually in December and is published by the Association for the History of Berlin . The essays deal with topics from all epochs of Berlin's history, from archeology to contemporary history , and from all areas, from the labor movement to zoology . Since 1964, the volumes have also included the association's annual activity report. The editors are Wolfgang Krogel, director of the Evangelical Regional Church Archive in Berlin, and Susanne Kähler , professor of museum studies at the HTW .

history

Originally, the Association for the History of Berlin issued two scientific publications, the writings of the Association for the History of Berlin and the communications of the Association for the History of Berlin . In the early years of the Federal Republic of Germany , the printing of both publications was not financially feasible, so that in 1951 a yearbook was published for the first time . In the early years, the font was dependent on a subsidy from the Berlin House of Representatives and the German Class Lottery Berlin (1965 and 1977), later the yearbook was financed, among other things, through advertisements. The yearbook has been published in a publishing program since 1952. In 1955 a bibliography on Berlin history was published for the first time .

From 1951 to 1973 the yearbook was bound in a sturdy book cover , and since 1952 with a dust jacket on which a large-format picture was shown. From 1974 to 1999 the cover was yellow and had a half-page picture. Since 2000, with the exception of the 2014/15 anniversary volume, the yearbook has been in dark blue, as has the reintroduced dust jacket. The cover illustrates a different cover picture .

Many well-known Berlin historians and experts could be won as authors, including Mario Krammer , Johannes Schultze , Knud Knudsen , Ernst Heinrich , Hans Lohmeyer , Bernhard Brilling , Paul Ortwin Rave , Ilja Mieck , Otto Uhlitz , Helmut Börsch-Supan , Hermann Simon , Peter Bahl , Wolfgang Ribbe , Michael Wildt and Helmut Engel .

The 2016 yearbook received special attention from the public due to the publication of a detailed article on the Reich Chancellery by Berlin historian Thomas Sandkühler . The association temporarily added numerous, partly previously unpublished photos of the building to the article on its website.
