The Central German soft drinks GmbH & Co. KG (abbreviated MEG group ), a wholly owned subsidiary of Schwarz Group , is the largest mineral -producer and the second largest producer of soft drinks in Germany. The company's headquarters are in Weißenfels , ( Saxony-Anhalt ).

Company history

The MEG Group emerged in 1998 as a holding company from Leißlinger Mineralbrunnen GmbH , based in Leißling . The mineral fountain in Leißling has existed since 1889 and became known through the brands Leißlinger Köhler and Thüringer Gesundbrunnen . The company was founded by Max Reitwiesner and has been a family business since 1907. From 1972 to 1990 the company was nationalized and affiliated to the VEB Beverage Combine Dessau . With the reprivatisation in 1990, Christian Künzer, grandson of the company's founder Max Reitwiesner, took over the business. Künzer later sold all of his shares in several steps to the Schwarz Group , which has been the sole owner of the MEG Group since 2008.

Between 2000 and 2002 the MEG Group took over three further mineral well locations. The following bottling companies belong to the holding company:

and Roßbacher Kunststoffververarbeitung GmbH ( Braunsbedra , Saxony-Anhalt) and Vogtland PET GmbH ( Neuensalz ), which produce PET blanks for one-way bottles.

In 2006 the headquarters of Leißling was relocated to neighboring Weißenfels .

Economic data

The MEG Group employs a total of around 1,500 people and produces over three billion liters of beverages annually. The company produces private labels for the Schwarz Group companies ( Lidl and Kaufland ). The MEG group achieved an estimated turnover of 383 million euros in 2010.
