The Moberly River is an approximately 165 km long right tributary of the Peace River in the Peace River Regional District in the northeast of the Canadian province of British Columbia . The river was named after Henry John Moberly (1835-1931) of the Hudson's Bay Company , who in 1859 was the head of the Jasper House trading branch .
River course
The Moberly River rises southeast of Williston Lake in the Hart Ranges in the eastern foothills of the Canadian Rocky Mountains at an altitude of about 1500 m . From there it initially flows 60 km in a predominantly eastward direction through the mountains. Then it flows through the 14 km long Moberly Lake . It leaves this at its eastern end and flows another 93 km, initially in a north-northeast direction, later in an east-northeast direction, before finally flowing into the Peace River 6 km southwest of the city of Fort St. John . The Pine River runs further south .
Hydrology
The Moberly River drains an area of about 1800 km². At the gauge 37 km above the mouth, the mean discharge is 11.6 m³ / s. Usually the largest runoffs occur in June.
