Modinagar is a city in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh . The city is part of the Ghaziabad district . Modinagar has the status of Nagar Palika Parishad . Modinagar is located about 1093 km from Uttar Pradesh's capital Lucknow and is part of the National Capital Region . The city is divided into 26 wards (constituencies).

The modern city was founded in 1933 by Gujarmal Modi , who together with his brother Kedar Nath Modi founded the company Modi Enterprises and built a sugar cane mill. The city was founded in the area of ​​a much older Mughal city. Modinagar was called Begumabad until 1945.

Demographics

According to the 2011 census, the population of the city is 130,325 and that of the agglomeration is 183,075. Modinagar has a gender ratio of 881 women per 1000 men and thus a male surplus typical for India. The literacy rate was 88.43% in 2011 and thus above the national and regional average. The National Highway 58 connects the city with northern India. The city has a train station on the Delhi to Saharanpur railway line .
