Company headquarters in Markdorf

Weber Automotive is a Baden-Württemberg automotive supplier from Markdorf in the Lake Constance district . The company manufactures engine blocks , cylinder heads and gearboxes . Around 300,000 cylinder crankcases are processed annually.

In addition to the headquarters in Markdorf, Weber Automotive has locations in Neuenbürg , Bernau near Berlin , St. Ingbert , Magdeburg , Auburn Hills and Esztergom , which supply a large number of international vehicle and engine manufacturers.

history

The company was founded in 1969 by Albert Weber, who initially manufactured turned parts for MTU and ZF Friedrichshafen on an old lathe in the family's hen house. In 1976 Weber took over his former training company, Kyburz KG, where he had completed an apprenticeship as a toolmaker from 1964 to 1968. Weber got the company with 45 employees out of the red, tripled the production volume in seven years and from then on supplied machine manufacturers such as Heidelberger Druckmaschinen and Schaeffler , as well as automobile manufacturers such as BMW , Porsche and Daimler-Benz . In 1987 the takeover of Schramme GmbH followed and in 1996 the takeover of the Jung company from Neuenbürg, which at that time was twice the size of Weber Automotive, but was in financial difficulties. In 2010 the location in Auburn Hills was taken over by the insolvent automotive supplier Görtz & Schiele. The French investment company Ardian has held a stake in Weber Automotive since 2016 , but the founding family Weber remained as an important minority owner. Weber Automotive had to file for bankruptcy in June 2019. One of the reasons for the bankruptcy was a dispute between Ardian and the Weber family over a required capital increase . In July 2019, Ardian filed a criminal complaint against the former shareholders for fraud. In 2020, the founding family bought back large parts of the insolvent company as part of an asset deal. No collective agreement currently applies to the company. IG Metall criticizes this and wants to establish a collective bargaining agreement
