Mohamad Fityan ( Arabic محمد فتيان, DMG Muḥammad Fityān ; * August 1, 1984 in Aleppo , Syria ) is a Syrian musician and composer best known for his virtuosity on nay and kawala .

Life

Fityan completed his studies with Mohamad Kassas and Berj Kassis at the Higher Institute of Music in Damascus , where he graduated in 2010.

Fityan has traveled as a soloist in many countries around the world and has performed with various international orchestras , such as the Syrian National Orchestra, the Syrian Jazz Big Band Orchestra, the Berlin Symphony Orchestra , the Fanfare du Loup Orchestra, the Codarts & Royal Conservatory Big Band and the Sarband Ensemble on. His music career has taken him to the stages of Europe , Asia , North Africa , the Middle East and the United Arab Emirates .

In addition to his concert activities, Fityan also worked on various film soundtracks as a musician on Nay and Kawala.

In 2014 he fled the civil war in his home country Syria and came to Berlin , where he has lived since then. He also works with many German musicians, so in 2016 he founded his own band with three Germans, "Fityan", whose first EP was Oriental Space .

In addition to his work as a composer and musician, Mohamad Fityan also works as a music teacher. In Syria he taught at the Solhi al-Wadi Institute for Music and as part of the Syrian-Dutch project “Music in Me”, which was supported by UNRWA and UNICEF SOS Children's Villages. In Germany he taught at the Oriental Summer Academy and in 2018 founded his own online academy for Nay and Kawala, "Fityan Academy".

Awards and honors

  • Best Nay Player Award, Competition of the Syrian Youth Musicians in Syria (2002).
  • Best Conductor Award, Competition of the Syrian Youth Musicians in Syria (2003).
  • Fityan was the first Nay player to play solo at the opening concert of the Syrian Jazz Big Band Orchestra in Damascus Castle (2005).
  • Fityan wrote the first teaching program for Nay and Kawala in three languages: Arabic , English and German (2016).
  • In 2015, Fityan played at the opening ceremony of the Dubai World Cup Horse Race at the personal invitation of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum , Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates .

Fityan plays concerts all over the world, his career so far has taken him to Syria, Lebanon and Jordan also to the United Arab Emirates , Oman , Qatar , the Maghreb ( Egypt , Tunisia , Algeria and Morocco), to Azerbaijan and Pakistan , and to numerous European countries such as Germany , France , Belgium , Luxembourg , the Netherlands , the Czech Republic , Sweden , Austria , Italy and Spain .

Mohamad Fityan was the first musician in 2009 to arrange this music and make it playable; The pieces were professionally recorded with the Arasham Band in 2009.
