Mohamed Iltaf Sheikh Baron Sheikh, (* 13. June 1941 ) is a British businessman and politician of the Conservative Party , which since 2006 Peer Life Member of the House of Lords is.

Life

After attending school, Sheikh worked as an insurance agent at Sun Alliance Insurance Co between 1962 and 1966 and moved to Household and General Insurance Co in 1966, where he worked until 1969. During this time he also became a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute , the professional association of the British insurance industry . He was with the Guardian Royal Exchange Assurance from 1969 to 1978 before joining the independent financial services firm Camberford Law plc from 1978 to 2009 . During this time he was also President of the Insurance Institute of Croydon between 1981 and 1982 and a member of the National Council of the Chartered Insurance Institute from 1985 to 1987. Between 1989 and 1990, Sheikh again worked for the Insurance Institute of Croydon, this time as chairman of the life and annuity insurance group.

Sheikh, who served on the Committee of the Financial Intermediaries, Managers and Brokers Association in both 1991 and 1996, became Freeman of London in 1995 and was Chairman of the UK Insurance Brokers Association between 1998 and 2002. Since 2003 he has served both as chairman of the Sheikh Abdullah Foundation and as chairman of the Conservative Party's Muslim Forum . He has also been chairman of the Ethnic Diversity Council, an organization promoting multicultural society in Great Britain, since 2005 .

By a letters patent dated June 6, 2006, Sheikh was elevated to the nobility as a life peer with the title Baron Sheikh , of Cornhill in the City of London . Shortly after its introduction was carried out ( Introduction ) as a member of the House of Lords . In the upper house he belongs to the faction of the Conservative Party.

Since 2010 Lord Sheikh has been chairman of the financial services and insurance company Macmillan Sheikh plc. He also currently serves as chairman and director of Courtlands Property & Investments Ltd, Lygon Property Investments Ltd, Iqra Ethical plc and director of Frazer McGill Ltd.
