Mohu (German Moichen , Hungarian Móh ) is a village in Sibiu County ( Romania ). It is part of the municipality of Șelimbăr ( Schellenberg ).

location

Mohu is located in the south of Transylvania , about 8 km southeast of Sibiu ( Hermannstadt ). Immediately south of the village, the Hârtibaciu ( Harbach ) flows into the Cibin ( Zibin ).

history

Moichen was first mentioned in a document in 1488. It was on Königsboden and was originally a village of the Transylvanian Saxons . Around the 16th century, Moichen was abandoned by the Saxons. As a result, the village was settled by Romanians .

population

Since the first official censuses from 1850, Mohu was almost exclusively inhabited by Romanians. In 2002, 652 of the 677 inhabitants at that time stated this nationality. In addition, 19 gypsies , 3 Germans and 3 Hungarians lived in the village.

traffic

Mohu has a train stop on the Sibiu – Avrig line . The narrow-gauge railway " Wusch " also ran through the town until 2001 .

The Sibiu motorway bypass was built to the northwest of the village about two kilometers away. It was completed at the beginning of 2011 and will later form part of the A1 motorway .

Attractions

The Romanian Orthodox Church Biserica Sfântul Nicolae , which was built in 1782 and has interior paintings, is located in Mohu and is a listed historical monument.
