Moissei Isaakowitsch Kaganow

Moissei Isaakowitsch Kaganow ( Russian Моисе́й Исаа́кович Кага́нов ; born August 4, 1921 in Lubny ; † August 31, 2019 or September 1, 2019 in the United States ) was a Russian - Ukrainian physicist and university professor .

Life

Kaganow, son of the philologist Isaak Jakowlewitsch Kaganow, was a soldier in the Red Army during the German-Soviet War and received the Order of the Red Star . He then studied physics at Kharkov University with a diploma.

In 1949 Kaganow began his scientific work in the Kharkov Physics and Technology Institute . After postgraduate he was in 1954 dissertation candidate with its interaction of charged particles with slow waves in anisotropic dielectrics for candidates of Physical and Mathematical Sciences PhD. In 1958 he was with his doctoral thesis Some problems of kinetic solid state theory for Mathematical Physics and Doctor of Science doctorate. In the 1960s he was head of the theoretical physics department at the Kharkov Physics and Technology Institute.

In 1970 Kaganow became a research assistant at the Institute for Physical Problems of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (later the Kapiza Institute) in Moscow . In addition, he was a professor at the Lomonosov University in Moscow . In 1994 he retired, which he spent in the USA.

Kaganow's main areas of work were quantum theory of solid-state physics and plasma physics . IN Adamenko was one of his students. In addition, Kaganow strove to popularize science, wrote popular science essays and books on the history of science and the biographies of scientists.
