Moita is a municipality ( freguesia ) in the Portuguese district of Marinha Grande . 1420 inhabitants live in it (as of June 30, 2011).

geography
Moita borders the municipality of Marinha Grande to the north and the municipalities of Maceira and Martingança to the south . Moita is located directly on the A8 Autoestrada (2 km), between the Pataias and Marinha Grande Sul exits . The county town of Marinha Grande is 5 km north on the N242 national road.
history
The place arose on the edge of the Pinhal de Leiria , the extensive forest areas that were created under the reign of King D. Dinis (1279-1325). Since 1500 the place is known as Vintena de Mouta and was a historical administrative unit ( Vintena ). With the creation of Marinha Grande's circle in 1836 , Moita came to that circle. With the dissolution of the district in 1838 , Moita came to the Pataias district . Since then, Moita has been fighting for a renewed affiliation with Marinha Grande.
In 1985 Moita became an independent community. However, it belonged to the Alcobaça County until July 12, 2001 . Then the 163 year long efforts of the congregation were successful and they were affiliated to Marinha Grande.
