Molly Lamont

Molly Lamont (born May 22, 1910 in Boksburg , South Africa , † July 7, 2001 in Brentwood , California ) was a British film actress .

Life

Molly Lamont, who was born in South Africa in 1910, went to the UK after successfully participating in a beauty pageant , where she was signed by British International Pictures in Elstree . From 1930 she starred in a number of British films, in which she often appeared as an elegant lady of high society. In addition to Gertrude Lawrence , she was also seen in the 1932 film Lord Camber's Ladies, produced by Alfred Hitchcock . In the mid-1930s, she was finally invited to Hollywood, where she was henceforth used in numerous supporting roles, including in John Ford's historical film Mary of Scotland ( Mary of Scotland , 1936) with Katharine Hepburn in the title role and in the comedy film The Terrible Truth ( The Awful Truth , 1937) as the fiancée of Cary Grant . By 1951, when she retired from the film business, she had appeared in more than 50 feature films.

Lamont was married to pilot Edward Bellande from 1938 until Bellande's death in 1975. Lamont died in Brentwood , California in 2001 at the age of 91 .
