Molokai, la isla maldita is a Spanish feature film from 1959 and its theme is the Belgian saint Damian de Veuster , who cared for lepers on the Hawaiian island of Molokaʻi . The film premiered in Spain on August 21, 1959.

The religious priest Damian de Veuster comes to the Hawaiian island of Moloka'i to take care of the lepers who have settled there and who live there isolated from society. Although he is not welcome at first, he takes great care of the people on the island. Bluck in particular is hostile to the fact that he takes the goods that are sent to the island for the people.

Damian de Veuster helps give birth to a dying woman in labor and decides to raise it. Shortly afterwards he built a chapel on the island. He also baptizes islanders who want to convert to Christianity. As his fame grows, he is given large quantities of medicine to supply people with. Damian de Veuster is awarded a medal for his commitment.

Damian de Veuster is shocked when he notices the first signs of leprosy, which the doctor confirms. His condition is steadily deteriorating. Eventually he dies of his illness; shortly afterwards his leprosy disappears from his face.

• In 1959, the Spanish National Syndicate of Spectacle won a Prize of the National Syndicate of Spectacle for Luis Lucia as best director and a special award for best film.

• In 1960, at the Cinema Writers Circle Awards, lead actor Javier Escrivá was awarded for Best Actor Principal ( Mejor Actor Principal ) and Jaime García Herranz for Best Screenplay ( Mejor Guión ).

• Also in 1960, lead actor Javier Escrivá won the Fotogramas de Plata ( Mejor intérprete de cine españo ).
