The Monas is an open -handed - Keelboat with itself of applicable jib and a fold Ausreitsitz . All operating and trimming devices are tailored to one person.

history

In 1974 Helmut Stöberl (who also developed Dyas , Trias and Fighter ) constructed the Monas - the first open one-handed keelboat with a self-turning jib. In April 1979 the German Sailing Association recognized the Monas as a so-called single-type class and in January 1985 as a national class .

From 1975 to 1980 the Monas was produced and sold by the Klepper shipyard in Rosenheim . The Segelboot Bauer company initially took over the Monas under license from Klepper (1980 to 1983) and in 1984 acquired all construction and sales rights, patents and trademarks. From 1984 onwards, Segelboot Bauer had the Monas hulls manufactured in the Schiessel shipyard in Radolfzell. In 1984 the new Monas C - competition was presented. 1995 Segelboot Bauer handed over the license to manufacture the Monas to the company Bootsladen eK in Teningen-Rohrlache.

After no new Monas sailboats came onto the market for a long time, the Monas Class Association acquired the construction and usage rights as well as the patent and trademark rights of the Monas in 2012 to secure them. In the same year Kurt Helbling, Bootsbau Jona, started to revise the Monas forms and start building a series of Swiss Monas (GER 500 to GER 505). The Monas One Design has been manufactured by Davidswerft in Mölln since January 2020 (GER 510 upwards).

description

All control and trimming devices of the Monas are consistently tailored to single-handed sailing and should ensure the easiest and safest possible sailing. The boat can also be sailed by two people. With around 50% ballast , the Monas is very safe from capsizing and self- righting . The cockpit is self-draining . In stronger winds, the fold-out riding seats on both sides, the trademark of the Monas, enable back-friendly riding. The boat can be tracked with middle class cars. The Monas can be retrofitted with a genoa , spinnaker and a trapeze device .

construction

Klepper Monas / Farmer Monas

The hull and deck were made of glass fiber reinforced polyester (GRP) using the hand lay-up process and connected with a profile. Sandwich construction (sandwich core: hard foam / hardened balsa end-grain from Monas C) reinforces the entire deck and the underwater area of the shell. Between the fuselage and cover shell there are 650 liters of buoyancy (styrofoam blocks) and guarantee unsinkability in the event of an accident.

Swiss Monas / Monas One Design

The MONAS has been manufactured using the vacuum infusion process since 2012. Two transverse bulkheads and a special frame system make the boat very torsion-resistant. Four independent buoyancy chambers and the sandwich construction - closed-cell rigid foam between the outer and inner laminate - make the boat unsinkable. The keel and rudder are made from new shapes. A hinged central channel / bulkhead channel ensures order in the cockpit.

Regatta and races

Since 1975, regattas for the Monas have been organized by the sailing clubs on many lakes in Germany and Austria. There is an active ranking list with nine regattas on different areas. The best of the year - similar to a German championship - are determined. The Monas Euro Challenge is sailed every two years.
