The Mongkol Borei is a river in western Cambodia . It rises in the province of Chanthaburi in Thailand on the border with Cambodia and flows through the provinces of Battambang , where it forms a small part of the border with the province of Pailin , and Banteay Meanchey , where it is the border river between the districts of Mongkol Borei and Preah Netr Prea , until it flows into the Sangke back in the province of Battambang at Prey Chas . It has a catchment area of 4,444 km², of which 3,156 km² in Cambodia, and is over the Sangkean important tributary of the Tonle Sap lake . The area has an annual rainfall of approx. 1,500 mm, the average runoff is estimated at 6,666 m³ / s. The main tributaries of the Mongkol Borei are the Sisophon , Pheas , Kampong Krasaing and Svay Chek . The section after the confluence with the Sisophon (officially Stung Serei Saophoan or Stung Serei Sophorn ) to the confluence with the Sangke is also called Sisophon instead of Mongkol Borei .

The Khmer Rouge destroyed a bridge that once spanned the river.
