Monika Dobberstein (* 1967 ) is a German urban planner , university professor and manager .

Career

Dobberstein studied from 1987 to 1993 at the Faculty of Spatial Planning at the University of Dortmund and received his doctorate there in 1997 . As a research assistant and assistant, she was employed for over eight years in the field of commercial planning and in the BGS office for commercial planning and urban development . While still studying and doing her doctorate, she concentrated on issues relating to the ability of office markets to forecast. In 1998 she received the real estate research award for her dissertation .

Dobberstein then moved to Immobilien Management Gesellschaft , a subsidiary of IKB Deutsche Industriebank in Düsseldorf. There she prepared market and location analyzes in the run-up to new financing and usage concepts for so-called non-performing commitments and developed real estate market and property databases as well as a real estate rating model within the framework of Basel II .

She then worked as an assistant to the board of directors for B&L Immobilien AG , a stock corporation listed in the MDax.

In 2002 Dobberstein accepted the call to the Department of Urban Planning at the Technical University of Hamburg , which later became part of the newly founded HafenCity University (HCU). As a professor and chair holder of business planning and economic development , she taught and researched issues relating to the subject of "real estate and the city". She established the course "Urban Planning" in the private real estate industry, so that around 30% of the graduates found their way into the real estate industry. In the founding phase of the HCU, Dobberstein developed a strategy for the development of a research and teaching focus on “Real Estate and City”, which found approval and support from politics and business.

In 2007 Dobberstein switched back to the private sector and worked as an authorized signatory in the Hamburg Capital Market Team of the consulting company Jones Lang Lasalle . After the financial crisis, she took over the German market entry of the Dutch software company Reasult BV as branch manager for Germany from 2009 to 2014 and was then head of corporate communications at Procom Invest GmbH & Co. KG for one year .

In 2016 Dobberstein took on her first management position as sole managing director of Wirtschaft und Marketing Soest GmbH . There she managed three major projects, two of which (development of the Adam barracks; development of the commercial and industrial area Wasserfuhr I) were fully implemented, the third project was pushed ahead (renovation concept for contaminated sites, state competition for urban design). In addition, she was responsible for classic economic development, city marketing with tourist information, management of the city hall and inner-city events.

Dobberstein taught at the University of Dortmund , the TU Hamburg , the HafenCity University Hamburg , the TU Berlin , the ebs Real Estate Academy as well as at the ISW Institute for Urban Development and Housing and at the Association for Home Ownership and Urban Development.

Voluntary engagement for real estate associations

Dobberstein has been involved in real estate research topics since 1994 as part of her work for the Society for Real Estate Research (gif), and from 1997 to 2007 she was a member of the company's board of directors. She was a founding member of the “Market Analysis” working group. She helped set up the ZIÖ magazine for real estate economics, the gif association magazine and the only scientific real estate magazine in Germany, and was its editor-in-chief until 2007.

As the person responsible for university contacts, she initiated the annual “University Teachers Conference” and “Doctoral Colloquium” events and was responsible for these events for several years. She also designed the annual university guide.

Dobberstein established the association “Women in the Real Estate Industry” in northern Germany, with major events such as the Hamburg New Year's dinner.
