Monika Fassbender

Monika Fassbender (born February 14, 1950 ) is a German historian . From 1983 to 2010 she headed the archive of liberalism of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom in Gummersbach .

Life

Faßbender studied history , Eastern European history and German at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn as well as at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität Kiel and submitted her doctoral thesis on the history of liberalism in the 19th century in 1978/79, which was supervised by the modern historian Ernst Opgenoorth has been. In 1979 she received the Wolf-Erich-Kellner Prize for her dissertation . In the same year she became a consultant at the Friedrich Naumann Foundation, in 1983 she took over the management of the Archive of German Liberalism belonging to the Foundation (since 2001: Archive of Liberalism) as the successor to Friedrich Henning . Under her leadership, the archive moved from Bonn to Gummersbach in 1983/84 and the archive was rebuilt in 2009. She retired at the end of 2010, and Ewald Grothe succeeded her as head of the archive. At times, Faßbender was also responsible for the foundation's gifted sponsorship work as a division manager . From 2002 to 2010 she was co-editor of the yearbook on liberalism research .
