Monika Schaal (born August 30, 1945 in Binz ) is a German SPD politician and member of the Hamburg Parliament .

Life

Schaal went to primary school in Berlin-Charlottenburg. From 1956 she attended the old-language branch of the Erich-Hoepner-Schule and in 1964 switched to the Kant-Gymnasium in Berlin-Spandau. After graduating from high school in 1966 and doing a commercial internship, Schaal studied economics and social sciences in Berlin . In 1972 Schaal worked on a project on curriculum research for social studies. After completing her studies, she worked from 1973 as a qualified commercial teacher in the Hamburg school service. The title of her diploma thesis was: "Professional socialization - importance of in-company professional training for the behavior and attitude of apprentices in relation to previous socialization processes". In 1976 she became an assistant at the Institute for Political Science at the University of Hamburg . They received his doctorate in 1982 there with the labor competence is a problem of political legitimacy. In 1984 she retired from university . This was followed by a job at the " German Green Cross " (dgk) in Marburg as a journalist . politics

Schaal has been a member of the SPD since 1976. From 1993 she sat in the Hamburg-Eimsbüttel district assembly and was chairwoman of the Lokstedt local committee .

She was a member of the Hamburg parliament from October 8, 1997 to 2020. She represented the SPD in the Budget Committee, the Committee on Public Enterprises and the Committee on Environment and Energy. She was deputy group leader and specialist spokesperson for her group for the environment and energy. She did not run again for the 2020 general election.
