The Monte Legnone ( Lombard: Legnon ) is a 2609  m slm high mountain in the northwest of the Bergamasque Alps in Italy. It is the highest mountain on Lake Como .

Routes to the summit

The Legnone can be reached from all sides. From the Valtellina as well as from the Val Varrone , old military trails lead to the vicinity of the summit, but require a good level of fitness due to the enormous height differences. The military trails connect the south ridge of the mountain with the south-east ridge at an altitude of approx. 2,400 m. The new Via Alta of the Bergamasque Alps leads over the southeast ridge to the summit; You can climb up the south ridge without a path. The most popular and by far the most beautiful climb leads from the Rifugio Roccoli dei Lorla (1,463 m), which can be reached from the valley town of Tremenico , over the two alpine pastures of Agrogno and the western ridge of the mountain to the summit. Above the Porta dei Merli (2,139 m) there is the Ca 'de Legn bivouac (2,148 m, two sleeping mats) and a transfer device. At the pre-peak (ital. Anticima , 2,529 m) of the true path to the north ridge of Passo Colombano coming up (1,970 m) via ferrata . The transition from the lower summit to the main summit is lavishly secured with steel cables and metal brackets (T3 +). The Legnone has recently been connected to the Pizzo Alto and the other main ridge of the Bergamasque Alps via the aforementioned Via Alta.

panorama

Thanks to its free-standing location, the view from Legnone covers large parts of Lake Como and the eastern arm of Lake Lugano . When the view is clear, the entire western Alpine arc from Monviso to Monte Adamello and in the south a large part of the Ligurian Apennines appear above .
