The Monte San Simeone ( Friulian : Mont di Sant Simeon ) is a free-standing mountain in the Italian Southern Alps in Friuli-Venezia Giulia . To the north and east it drops steeply into the Tagliamento valley , to the west to Lake Cavazzo , and in the south only the lower foothill Monte Brancot stands in front of the Venetian plain . From the south, a winding military road built shortly before the First World War leads to a small plateau with a few holiday homes. From there, the summit can be reached almost all year round via an easy hiking trail.
