Monte del Lago is a district ( fraction , Italian frazione ) of Magione in the province of Perugia , Umbria region in Italy .

geography

The place is 3 km west of the capital Magione and 18 km west of the provincial and regional capital Perugia on Lake Trasimeno . The place is at 295  m slm and had 167 inhabitants in 2001. 3 km northeast is Torricella , 2.5 km northeast is Montecolognola and 3 km south is San Feliciano , all of them fractions of Magione.

history

The place was created in its current form in the 14th century when the government of Perugia expanded the fortifications on Lake Trasimeno. The resolution of September 5, 1312 also provided for the construction of the fortifications of Mons Fontegianus , today's Monte del Lago. From 1556 the Governo del Lago had its seat here.

The Church of Sant'Andrea
  • Sant'Andrea Apostolo , church in the center, which was first mentioned in 1404 as S. Andrea de castro Montis Fontisciani .
  • Fortification walls from the 14th century.
    • Rocca , fortification at the highest point of the place and also the entrance from the mainland.
    • Porta Trasimeno (also Porta Trasimena ), gate of the fortification walls as access to Lake Trasimeno.
  • Villa Palombaro (also Villa Schnabl ), villa restored by Guido Pompilj at the end of the 19th century.
  • Madonna dei Disciplinati , church just outside the ramparts, built in the 15th century.
  • Castello di Zocco , castle ruins below and south of the village. The fort is located at 260  m slm and emerged in 1274 next to a convent of Franciscan . The church within the castle was first dedicated to Saint Mary, then later to San Macario. The decline of the castle began in the 16th century, later many stones from the buildings were stolen for other structures, so that today only a ruin can be seen.

traffic

  • The closest connection point to long-distance traffic is in Torricella, approx. 3 km northeast. There is a connection to the Raccordo autostradale 6 .
  • The nearest train station is also in Torricella. It is on the Terontola- Foligno railway line .
