The Monteverdi Peninsula is a large and ice-covered peninsula in the south of the West Antarctic Alexander I Island . It separates the Bach Ice Shelf from the George VI Sound .
The US polar explorers Finn Ronne and Carl R. Eklund (1909–1962) sighted and mapped the south side of the peninsula as the first to cross the full length of George VI Sound on the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939–1941 ). The entire peninsula was mapped using Trimetrogon images from the Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (1947–1948) and measurements made by the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey between 1948 and 1950. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named the peninsula on December 20, 1974 after the Italian composer Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643).
