Monty Hall , OC , OM (Born August 25, 1921 in Winnipeg , Manitoba , as Maurice Halperin ; † September 30, 2017 in Beverly Hills , California , United States ) was a Canadian show host and television producer .

Career

Hall first studied chemistry and zoology at the University of Manitoba before starting his career as a showmaster in the early 1950s with shows like Bingo At Home and Strike It Rich .

In 1958 he developed his first own show called Keep Talking . His next show, Your First Impression , he was able to place on NBC in 1962. During the filming he got to know Stefan Hatos, one of the production employees of the show. Together with him he founded a production company, and their first joint development, the game show Let's make a Deal (produced in Germany by SAT1 under the title Go on the whole! ), Was a great success. Hall himself appeared as the show host on the show, which aired on NBC between 1963 and 1968 and then on ABC until 1976 . For this he was nominated for an Emmy . During the 1980s the series ran intermittently on NBC . Besides go all out! they developed Split Second , Chain Letters , 3 For the Money and It's Anybody's Guess .

In 1973 Hall received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and in 1988 he was awarded the Order of Canada .

From one of his shows, a problem from probability theory has become popular, the so-called goat problem , also known as the Monty Hall problem.

Joanna Gleason , the daughter of Monty Hall, is a Canadian actress who has achieved considerable success as an actress in film and television, but above all in the theater scene.
