The Moodswinger, a third bridge guitar for Aaron Hemphill, Liars

A mood swinger is a third bridge guitar that the Dutch artist and musician Yuri Landman invented in 2006 for the American band Liars . Although the instrument resembles an electric guitar , it is a flat board zither in that it has neither frets nor a neck .

The Moodswinger also has an additional third, movable bridge . The pickup and electronic components are located in the neck and not, as is common with guitars, in the body .

Mood and overtones

The Moodswinger has twelve strings in the fourth circle tuning E – A – d – g – c'– f'– ais' – dis' '- gis'' - cis' '' - fis' '' - h '' ', which are arranged in three rows of four strings each. The third bridge divides the strings into two parts with different pitches. Depending on where the string is plucked, a bell-like overtone also sounds .

Landman built a second instrument, the Moonlander , for the band Sonic Youth in March 2007 . This was followed by others, including the Bachelor QA for Jad Fair from Half Japanese and the Springtime for Laura-Mary Carter from Blood Red Shoes . In 2009 he developed a workshop version, the Home Swinger , for music festivals .
