Deep Wounds - A Taunus Crime

Mordsfreunde is a German television film from 2014 . The literary film adaptation is based on the novel of the same name by Nele Neuhaus and is the third episode of the crime series Der Taunuskrimi .

A macabre puzzle is revealed to investigators Pia Kirchhoff and Oliver von Bodenstein: body parts are found in different places in a zoo. The original suspect is quickly eliminated because he is the murder victim himself. It is the high school teacher Hans-Ulrich Pauly. His commitment to animal and nature conservation made him many friends, but also many enemies. At least one of them seemed very serious.

Pia Kirchhoff and Oliver von Bodenstein feel their way into the social environment of the murdered person and come across a complex network of relationships. Many traces lead to the eighties and extend to the present. Pauly's fellow students and roommates at the time are now the city's notables, and their children were his students. As an activist, she has more in common with him than a simple student-teacher relationship.

Tensions from a thirty-year-old past, plus a death and conviction during that time, appear to be key to Pauly's murder. His former classmates became enemies and it turns out that the teacher ultimately only exploits and incites his students to take action against their parents. His former highly gifted student Tarek also realizes that Pauly is abusing him for his own purposes. Eventually it turns out that it is not Pauly's former friends, including the zoo director, who are initially suspected of being responsible for his death, but rather Tarek. Shortly after he kidnaps Pia Kirchhoff, he can be found and ultimately kills himself.

After the ZDF Taunus crime series with Snow White Must Die started successfully in February 2013 (6.91 million viewers and 19.9 percent market share), ZDF broadcast the third film version of a novel by Nele Neuhaus with Mordfreunde on October 20, 2014 .

The second book in the Bodenstein & Kirchhoff series was filmed with Mordsfreunde .

criticism

Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv found few words of praise and said: “'Mordsfreunde' is only a tad better than the horrific previous episodes. This is mainly due to the brisk staging and the lower density of dialogical style blooms. The story, with its abundance of plots and characters, remains dramaturgically, however, in the bottom drawer. [...] In the end, Rosenmüller turns the screw too much, which, in combination with a dramatic finale, creates an involuntary comedy. "
