Moreno Merenda (born May 17, 1978 in Baar ) is a Swiss football player who has been under contract with SC Cham since July 2012 .

Career

He started his football career at FC Baar. After changing to FC Lucerne in 1995, the striker first taste the air of the National League A . This was followed by a few side trips to the lower Swiss leagues before he moved abroad to the German regional league team FC Gütersloh in January 2000. There he was only used in the last two games against the amateurs of Borussia Dortmund and VfL Bochum , before the club stopped playing due to bankruptcy. He then moved to FC Wohlen for the rest of the season , before moving to FC Baden and then to FC Vaduz. As FC Vaduz's top scorer , Merenda moved to FC St. Gallen during the winter break of the 2002/03 season . Although he was mostly only used as a substitute, he scored a number of goals, some of which were decisive. This earned him the reputation of a noble joker. In the 2004/05 season he was the top scorer at FC St. Gallen despite few appearances and a long injury break.

At the beginning of the 2005/06 season, Ralf Loose, a new coach came to FC St. Gallen, under whom Moreno Merenda did not have it easy. Despite the often inadequate performance of the two regular strikers, Merenda usually only came to missions shortly before the end, in which he often brought more momentum into the game than his fellow strikers in the entire previous season. Even a hat trick in the cup didn't help him in this regard - the lack of understanding on the part of the fans and the press was great. Understandably, Merenda is toying with a change during the winter break. On January 16, 2006 it was then official - Moreno Merenda switched to league rivals FC Schaffhausen with immediate effect . He signed a contract there until the end of the 2006/07 season.

At the end of the season, FC Schaffhausen decided to make changes in the storm. One of the victims was Moreno Merenda, who in the penultimate game paved the way for Schaffhausen to stay in the league and at the same time secured him for his ex-club St. Gallen. In the 2006/07 season, he switched to relegated Xamax. In the 2006/07 Challenge League season, Merenda was the top scorer with 22 goals and played a large part in the immediate resurgence of Xamax.

In 2007-08 he personally played a solid Super League season. He scored 7 goals in 29 games. For the 2008/09 season, Merenda was hired again at his former club, FC St. Gallen, with whom he was promoted to the Super League. In addition, Merenda was runner-up to the top scorer. In the following season Merenda, who mostly figured as a substitute, scored 9 goals and was the most successful striker of FC St. Gallen.

From 2010 to 2012 Merenda played again for FC Vaduz; in the 2011/2012 season he was again the second best goalscorer in the Challenge League with 17 personal goals. Nevertheless, the contract was not extended at the end of the season and Moreno Merenda said goodbye at the last game of the season against his previous club, FC St. Gallen. He was celebrated by both the Vaduz people and the St. Gallen supporters.

On July 2, 2012, SC Cham announced the commitment of Moreno Merenda from the 1st League Classic . Merenda is returning to his home canton of Zug .
