Moritz Frauscher

Moritz Frauscher (born August 13, 1859 in Mattighofen , † February 1, 1916 in Vienna ) was an Austrian singer .

Life

Born the son of a notary, Frauscher studied law in Vienna and Graz . During his studies in 1877 he became a member of the Libertas Vienna fraternity . He turned to music, took singing lessons in Vienna and became known as a bassist . He performed in Nuremberg in 1889 , sang at the Ghent City Theater in 1890, at the Bremen City Theater in 1891, at the Wroclaw City Theater in 1893, at the Zurich City Theater in 1894 and at the German Theater in Prague in 1895 . From 1896 to 1899 he was in the ensemble at the Stuttgart Court Theater before he went to the Vienna Court Opera in 1899 and was part of the ensemble there until 1904. He took part in the Bayreuth Festival and toured Germany and Belgium for guest performances . He was also known as an oratorio singer . He was a professor at the Academy for Art in Vienna. The soprano Erika Frauscher was his niece. His grave is in the Mödling cemetery .
