Moritz Friedrich Essellen

Moritz Friedrich Essellen (born April 6, 1796 in Plettenberg ; † April 11, 1882 in Hamm ) was court counselor at the Hamm Higher Regional Court and city councilor in Hamm.

Esselen published historical treatises on the Romans in Germania , in particular Caesar's Rhine bridges , the Varus battle and the Aliso fort , on the district of Hamm , the county of Mark and the county of Tecklenburg , on investigations into the Beckum I burial ground , on the Hohenburg and on Westphalian toponyms .

In 1888 the University of Münster awarded him an honorary doctorate for his historical and archaeological research . Esselen was buried in the Ostenfriedhof , his grave has not been preserved.
