Moritz Loehr , from 1865 Knight von Loehr , also von Löhr (born October 7, 1810 in Berlin ; † October 28, 1874 in Vienna ) was a German- Austrian architect and engineer .

Life

He was the son of the Berlin banker August Simon Löhr (1774–1847) from Kitzingen , who moved to Vienna in 1818. Loehr then studied at the k. k. Polytechnic Institute in Vienna. In 1838 he took over the execution of all buildings and operating facilities of the Vienna-Gloggnitz Railway . In 1842 he accompanied Carl von Ghega on a trip to England and North America. From 1842 in the service of the state railway, from 1848 he was responsible for the entire building construction of the state railway network. From 1857 he was head of the building construction department in the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Public Buildings, from 1859 in the Ministry of the Interior. As a section council, he became a member of the Vienna City Expansion Fund and thus had an important supervisory function in the construction of Vienna's Ringstrasse .

In 1857 he took part in the competition to build Vienna's Ringstrasse. On January 17, 1859, he submitted the first sketch for the construction of the Rossau barracks. In 1868 he was asked to take part in the restricted competition for the Viennese court museums alongside Heinrich von Ferstel , Theophil von Hansen and Karl von Hasenauer . He was a member of the editorial team at the general construction newspaper published by Ludwig Förster since 1836 .

In 1894 the Löhrgasse in Vienna Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus (15th district) was named after him.

His son was the railway engineer and collector August von Loehr .
