Moritz Renner

Moritz Renner (* 1981 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German lawyer and professor of civil law, international and European business law at the University of Mannheim .

Career

After finishing school in Freiburg, Moritz Renner studied law at the Humboldt University in Berlin , the University of Padua and the Columbia Law School .

During his studies in Berlin, Moritz Renner worked as a student assistant with Ingolf Pernice at the Walter Hallstein Institute for European Constitutional Law and with Dieter Simon at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences . In 2007 he passed the first state examination in law in Berlin .

From 2007 to 2009 he was a research assistant at the DFG - Collaborative Research Center “Statehood in Transition” at the University of Bremen and doctoral candidate with Gralf-Peter Calliess . In 2010 he received his doctorate from the University of Bremen with the thesis “Mandatory transnational law”. In 2011 Renner was awarded the German Student Prize of the Körber Foundation for his work.

Under the law clerkship at the Regional Court of Berlin and assistant working for Stefan Grundmann at the Humboldt University of Berlin returned Renner in 2012 in one of the Volkswagen Foundation funded Lichtenberg Professorship for transnational business law and theory of business law at the University of Bremen back, which he held until the 2017th From 2013 to 2018 he was a member of the Junge Akademie .

In 2017, Renner completed his habilitation in Berlin with a thesis on the intersection of banking law and corporate law . He received the venia legendi for the subjects civil law , commercial and company law , European business law, international private law , comparative law and legal theory .

After completing his habilitation, he was offered professorships at the University of Bremen , the University of Erfurt and the University of Mannheim , from which he accepted the call to Mannheim in 2017.

Renner has held the Chair of Civil Law, International and European Business Law at the University of Mannheim since the end of 2017.

Research priorities

Moritz Renner's research focuses on international trade and business law. Research focuses on the law of cross-border finance contracts, banking law and corporate law. He also works on basic questions of private law, in particular from the perspective of legal sociology . Renner is co-editor of the legal theory online journal Ancilla Iuris .
