Moritz Schrauf

Mauritius "Moritz" Schrauf OSB (born April 21, 1891 as Georg Schrauf in Mintraching , Herzogmühle district; † February 13, 1974 in Buchloe ) was a German Benedictine and farmer .

Life

Moritz Schrauf was born as Georg Schrauf. After finishing school he entered the Benedictine order on October 11, 1914 in the Archabbey of Sankt Ottilien . He took the religious name Mauritius. After studying Catholic theology , he was ordained a priest on July 20, 1920. He then studied agricultural sciences at the Technical University of Munich and after graduating in 1924 as a qualified farmer at the University of Hamburg in 1924 and 1925, crop cultivation and animal breeding.

He then returned to his monastery as head of the economy and monastery administrator. 1950 to 1965 he was also director of the local agricultural school.

For his services to monastic agriculture he was awarded the Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1953 and the Bavarian Order of Merit in 1959 , and in 1966 he was appointed Episcopal Spiritual Council.
