Ensembles
Ensemble Altstadt Lauf an der Pegnitz
The historical core of the town ( location ) on the right bank of the Pegnitz is the village of Lauf, which is still clearly visible today in the irregular part of the town plan and stretched from the area of the later hospital to the Nürnberger Tor. From the road leading uphill from the Pegnitz, today's Johannisstraße, it received an orderly backbone. The new settlement next to the village, probably first half of the 13th century, received market rights around the middle of the 13th century . When the town was granted town charter in 1355, the old village was included in the town fortifications that had been started. At that time, the three-gate system, which has been preserved in its basic features, was created, from which only the water gate is removed; a modernization according to the plan of Antonio Fazuni from 1539 with a corner bastion was carried out only very inadequately.
The third core of the city is Lauf Castle, which was built on the Pegnitz Island as early as the 12th century. This defense structure, which was destroyed around 1300, was followed in the 14th century by the castle built by Emperor Charles IV with the famous coat of arms hall. The permission from 1430 to build wing walls between the city and the palace led to the inclusion of the palace in the city and at the same time defines the boundaries of the ensemble. Opposite on the edge of the systematic new settlement, between market, village and castle, is the bell foundry hospital, founded in 1317 by a Nuremberg citizen. The city, which had passed to Nuremberg in 1504 , was devastated by a large city fire in 1553, which also destroyed the hospital church, which has since shaped the cityscape as a ruin. During the reconstruction according to the old floor plan, the building measures that still characterize the city today were determined, so the sandstone facades facing the half-timbered buildings are significant, and the eaves side building based on the Nuremberg model began to displace the gable building. Ensemble Wehr I and II
The ensemble ( location ) is defined by topographical conditions such as the results of urban history around weirs I and II. The oldest settlement of Lauf ad Pegnitz was on the eponymous rapids of the Pegnitz, which had the steepest gradient of the entire river, so that the conditions for the installation of mills on both sides of the river were given. This water-technical expansion of the Pegnitz to four weir systems - in the 15th century the whole system was in operation - then led to a unique concentration of industry.
Mills were first mentioned around 1275, with the highest concentration in the 16th century, which eventually led to the concentration of medium-sized enterprises during industrialization. The last Laufer mill fell victim to the development of large mills in 1979, but by 1936 to 1938 both Wehr III and the first mill buildings were demolished. Nevertheless, important remnants of industrial production are still located and documented here. The ensemble includes the weirs at the point of the steepest slope and the branch of the Pegnitz, which was built in the Middle Ages. These "water buildings" are still occupied today on the north and south sides with buildings from the mill and hammer mills. In keeping with this ancient and diverse use, it is significant that the city's early electricity supply began here.
At weir I near the castle, on the old town side, the Reichelsche Schleifmühle has been preserved, a monument to the history of industry and craftsmanship, the tradition of which goes back to the year 1596. Opposite is the monumental-looking brick building of the Schlichtenmühle, where a mill has been passed down since the 13th century - i.e. since the beginning of the history of Laufer mill. Then on the south side, the Winterleiten, follows the structural system of the Barthschen art mill, formerly Holfeldermühle or Saturday mill - already part of Wehr II. The building complex consists of a mill house, originally a baroque building from 1781, which was redesigned in 1912 in a rich neo-baroque style, with an associated large garden and garden pavilion and formerly a large mill building to the west (today a disruptive new building). On the north side or Sommerleiten, the branched watercourse of the Pegnitz was used for a whole group of industrial and craft workshops and facilities until the 20th century. Farthest in the river is a small former power station, which is housed in a gable roof building with a half-timbered upper storey (Sichartstrasse 7) that essentially dates back to the 18th century. To the east, the workshops of the Engelhard hammer mill have been preserved. This is a brick building with a chimney, the energy requirements of which were largely based on hydropower until the end of operations; the technical equipment with machines and tools has been preserved (Sichartstrasse 5). The rye mill, which belonged to Barthschen Kunstmühle and was used as a rye mill between 1894 and 1912, was used for a long time as a hydropower plant, parallel to and between the river-side power station and the more recent power station on the bank or road. It is a sandstone block structure that should essentially date from the middle of the 19th century, but, as a spolia-like block stone dated 1544 testifies, still indicates previous buildings from the late Middle Ages (Sichartstraße 11). Electricity II (Sichartstrasse 9) is one of the group's most recent buildings; This is a simple brick building in which the circular anchor plates of the tie rods were used as decorative elements in the cornice zone. This also makes the internal technical use of space visible from the outside; In particular, this also applies to the preserved roof structure, which was formerly used to distribute the electricity produced here. Then to the west follows the important factory complex Sichartstrasse 15, 17, 19, 21, 23, 25 with buildings from the 19th and early 20th centuries; it is an important part of these defense systems as a document of the disbanded Weir III. The entire complex includes the weir systems and wheel chambers as well as the water tunnels, whose systems of water flow and protective railings help determine the appearance. Remarks
- ↑ This list may not correspond to the current status of the official list of monuments. The latter can be viewed on the Internet as a PDF using the link given under web links and is also mapped in the Bavarian Monument Atlas . Even these representations, although they are updated daily by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation , do not always and everywhere reflect the current status. Therefore, the presence or absence of an object in this list or in the Bavarian Monument Atlas does not guarantee that it is currently a registered monument or not. The Bavarian List of Monuments is also an information directory. The property of a monument - and thus the legal protection - is defined in Art. 1 of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act (BayDSchG) and does not depend on the mapping in the Monument Atlas and the entry in the Bavarian Monument List. Objects that are not listed in the Bavarian Monument List can also be monuments if they meet the criteria according to Art. 1 BayDSchG. Early involvement of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation according to Art. 6 BayDSchG is therefore necessary in all projects.
