Moritz von Gagern

Moritz Carl Christian Philipp Freiherr von Gagern (born August 18, 1808 in Weilburg ; † January 2, 1877 in Huis de Paauw near Wassenaar ) was a Nassau civil servant and politician and member of the 1st Chamber of the Estates of the Duchy of Nassau .

family

Moritz von Gagern was the son of statesman Hans Christoph Ernst von Gagern (1766-1852) and his wife Caroline (called: Charlotte) Freiin von Gaugreben (1776-1881).

Moritz von Gagern married on May 28, 1838 in Biebrich Auguste, born Freiin von Wintzingerode (* March 10, 1812, † July 14, 1843 in Neuwied ). Moritz von Gagern was Protestant.

Life

Moritz von Gagern attended grammar school in Weilburg from 1824 to 1826 and then studied law at the universities of Heidelberg , Utrecht and Göttingen . In 1829 he entered the Nassau civil service and was from 1831 to 1836 admitted to the office of Königstein . From 1836 he worked for the government of the Duchy of Nassau . In 1837 he became assessor, in 1840 a councilor and advisor for Protestant church affairs, and in 1839 chamberlain . In 1844 he was appointed Nassau commissioner at the Rhine Shipping Commission. From 1851 to 1855 he was a district administrator in the Rüdesheim district office , and from 1855 to 1860 an administrator in the St. Goarshausen district . From 1860 to 1866 he was director of the accounting chamber. In 1866 he was appointed bailiff in the Diez office and the secret council . In 1867 he retired. He was chamberlain and advisor to the House of Wied .

politics

From 1846 to 1848 he was a member of the First Chamber of the Estates of the Duchy of Nassau as the representative of Prince zu Wied.
