Morrison is an American small town ( Home Rule Municipality ) with less than 500 inhabitants in Jefferson County in the state of Colorado .
The location on Colorado State Highway 8 about 20 kilometers southwest of Denver is home to the Red Rocks Amphitheater , which won the 2007 Billboard Touring Awards .
A Stegosaurus fossil found here by Arthur Lakes in 1877 gave the name Morrison Formation .
