The Morro Pelado ("Naked Hill") is the second highest mountain on the Azores island of São Jorge . It is located in the municipality of Norte Grande in the Velas district .

Like the rest of the island, it is of volcanic origin. Neighboring mountains are the Pico da Esperança (1053 m) in the southeast, the Pico Montoso (945 m) in the southwest and the Pico Verde (953 m) in the northwest. At the Morro Pelado is the 140 m deepest volcanic cave in the Azores ( Algar do Morro Pelado or Algar do Montoso ). The endemic ground beetle Trechus isabelae lives only here . The Morro Pelado is part of the Reserva florestal natural do Pico da Esperança forest reserve established in 1988 to preserve the endemic vegetation .

On 11 December 1999, a crashed airliner of SATA Air Açores (flight 530M) on the way from Ponta Delgada to Horta on the southern flank of the Morro Pelado. The 35 occupants of the British Aerospace ATP came to life. A memorial stone today commemorates the victims of the accident at the crash site.

The Morro Pelado is passed by the marked PR4SJO (Pico do Pedro - Pico da Esperança - Fajã do Ouvidor) trail .
