The Pico da Esperança ("Mountain of Hope") is the highest mountain on the Azores island of São Jorge . It is located in the municipality of Norte Grande in the Velas district .

Like the rest of the island, it is of volcanic origin and has two small lakes in its crater . Neighboring mountains are the Pico Montoso (945 m) in the west, the Morro Pelado (1018 m) in the northwest and the Pico de Areiro (954 m) in the southeast.

The Pico da Esperança is easy to climb, e.g. B. on the marked PR4SJO hiking trail (Pico do Pedro - Pico da Esperança - Fajã do Ouvidor). From its summit, when the weather is clear, you can see all the islands of the central group -  Graciosa in the north, Terceira in the east, Pico in the southwest and Faial in the west. In 1988, to preserve the endemic vegetation, the Reserva florestal natural do Pico da Esperança forest reserve was established, which extends from the Pico do Carvao via the Morro Pelado to the Pico da Esperança.
