Morstein is the name of a patrician and aristocratic family from the city of Krakow .

origin

The krakauischen von Morstein must not be confused with the family of the same name from southern Germany; they have different coats of arms and are not related to the tribe .

The family first appears in a document on October 26, 1369 with the widow of Bartholomäus Morrinstein , Katharina and her son Bartholomäus, in Krakow. The family line begins with Georg Mornsteyn (first documented mention 1391, † 1422/23), senior man of the merchants and councilor of the Hanseatic city of Krakow . His descendants passed into the landed gentry .

One line acquired the rule of Kowahlen . This line also provided the district administrator of Oletzko . Another line settled in Silesia and provided several officers in the Prussian army .

Members of the Silesian line were deprived of their titles by the Prussian authorities at the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century . Robert von Morstein, a non-commissioned officer stationed in the Rhineland, lost his nobility due to theft after serving his almost five years of imprisonment . Therefore, to this day, there are several bourgeois lines.

On October 24, 1492, Georg von Morstein, hereditary bailiff of Kraków, received the Polish indigenous community with the Leliwa family coat of arms :

In blue, a golden crescent that opens upwards and encloses a golden star. On the crowned helmet with blue and gold helmet covers the shield image in front of a natural peacock feather pile.
