Moshe Idel

Moshe Idel (* 19th January 1947 in Targu Neamt , Romania) is an Israeli historian and philosopher with the work focusing on Jewish Thought and Kabbalah . He is a professor emeritus at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem .

Life

Idel moved to Israel in 1963 and taught at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem from 1975 to 2009. Idel had visiting professorships a. a. at UCLA , Yale University , Harvard University , Princeton University , the University of Pennsylvania and the Collège de France .

In 1999 Idel received the Israel Prize , the EMET Prize was awarded to him in 2002, and since 2006 he has been a member of the Israel Academy of Sciences . In the 2009/2010 academic year, he taught at the newly established Tikvah Center for Law & Jewish Civilization at New York University .
