The FSV Wacker 03 Gotha is a football club of the Thuringian county seat Gotha .

history

The club was founded in 1907 as FC Wacker Gotha and was later renamed SV Wacker 07 Gotha . In 1916 the club first took part in the finals for the Central German Championship. After a 3-0 win in the first intermediate round against SpVgg Erfurt , Gotha failed in the next round with 0-1 against Borussia Halle . In 1933 the club took part again in the finals, but lost the first game 1: 3 against Wacker Gera .

After the Second World War , the club was first re-established as SG Gotha and a little later renamed SG Vorwärts Gotha . From 1950 the association was finally called BSG Motor Gotha . During the GDR era, the first team always played in the lower class, the greatest success being their participation in the 2nd GDR League in 1958, from which the club was relegated after only one year. In 1954, 1969 and 1982 the Gothaer also took part in the FDGB Cup , but always failed in the first round.

From 1990 the club called itself SV Motor Gotha , before returning to its old name SV Wacker Gotha in 1993 . In 2001 the team was first in the Thuringian League and rose to the top division . In April 2003 the foundation stone was laid for their own football club. The soccer department split off from the remaining sports of SV Wacker 07 Gotha and founded a pure soccer sports club , FSV Wacker 03 Gotha . In 2003 the Gothaer went back to the Thuringian League. There they finished second in the table behind Eintracht Sondershausen in the 2009/10 season . Since the Northern Thuringians did not exercise their right of promotion for financial reasons, Gotha rose to the Oberliga Nordost . Gotha played in this league for three years, followed by two relegations in a row. For two years (2014/15 and 2015/16) Gotha played in the state class, currently (2017/18) in the Thuringian League.
