Moungi Bawendi

Moungi Gabriel Bawendi (* 1961 in Paris ) is an American chemist .

Live and act

Bawendi is the son of the Tunisian mathematician M. Salah Baouendi (1937–2011). Bawendi grew up in France, Tunisia and West Lafayette , Indiana .

Bawendi acquired in 1982 a Bachelor in chemistry at Harvard University , in 1983 a Master in physical chemistry up there and in 1988 Karl F. Freed a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Chicago . As a postdoctoral fellow , he worked with Louis Brus at AT&T Bell Laboratories .

Since 1990 he has been a faculty member at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge , Massachusetts , becoming an associate professor in 1995 and a full professorship in 1996.

Bawendi developed methods to semiconductors - nanocrystals produce that can be determined very accurately in their size and their properties. His research focuses on the synthesis and the electronic and optical properties of quantum dots (quantum dots) and their applications in biology , optoelectronics and nanoelectronics .
