Mount Amherst is a 2400 m high mountain in Marie Byrd Land in western Antarctica . In the Queen Maud Mountains it rises 5 km north-northeast of McNally Peak between the Holdsworth and Scott glaciers .
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) mapped it based on its own surveys and with the help of aerial photographs of the United States Navy between 1960 and 1964. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it after Amherst College , alma mater of Michael F. Sheridan, employee of the USGS while exploring the mountain.
