Mount Brounov ( Russian Гора Брунова , transcribed Gora Brunowa ; Norwegian Brounovkollen ) is a 2370 m high mountain in the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . In the Payer group of Hoelfjella it rises 2.5 km south of Mount Kibal'chich .
The mountain was discovered and mapped using aerial photographs during the German Antarctic Expedition (1938–1939) under the direction of Alfred Ritscher . Another mapping based on aerial photographs was carried out during the Third Norwegian Antarctic Expedition (1956–1960). Soviet scientists undertook a new mapping on a research trip that lasted from 1960 to 1961 and named it after the Soviet geographer Pyotr Ivanovich Brunow (1852-1927). The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names translated the Russian name into English in 1970.
