Mount Kibal'chich ( Russian Гора Кибальчича , transcribed Gora Kibaltschitscha ; Norwegian Kibal'chichtoppen ) is a 2500 m high mountain in the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . In the Payer group of Hoelfjella , it is the highest peak in the Kvævenutane group .
The mountain was discovered and mapped using aerial photographs during the German Antarctic Expedition (1938–1939) under the direction of Alfred Ritscher . Another mapping was carried out during the Third Norwegian Antarctic Expedition (1956–1960). During a research trip that lasted from 1960 to 1961, Soviet scientists carried out a new mapping and named it after the Russian revolutionary Nikolai Ivanovich Kibaltschitsch (1854-1881). The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names translated the Russian name into English in 1970.
