The Gareloi Volcano is a layer of volcanic that the essential part of the island Gareloi in the Aleutian Islands ( Alaska forms).

The volcano has a diameter of eight to ten kilometers at its base, reaches a maximum height of 1,573 meters and has two craters . The more southerly crater covered by fumaroles is larger and measures about 300 meters in diameter, due to the partially slipped south wall. There is a crack in the south wall that was formed when it erupted in 1929 and extends to the coast. The northern crater is covered by lava flows. A cathedral collapse apparently took place on its northwest flank . The Alaska Volcano Observatory mapped the volcano and its surroundings in 2003. In addition, were seismographs installed.
Eruption story
Since the island was discovered in 1741, around twelve eruptions have been recorded, accompanied by lava and pyroclastic flows . Usually first done an outbreak of the main chimney, followed by an explosive gas and ash eruption, in part, by a phreatic explosion . The eruptions were classified with a volcanic explosive index of 1 to 3. Such outbreaks occurred in 1790, 1791, 1792, 1873, 1922, April 1929, 1950, January 17, 1952, August 7, 1980, January 15, 1982, September 4, 1987, and August 17, 1989. Further eruptions in 1760, 1828, 1927 and 1996 have not been confirmed.
The 1929 eruption was the most severe in the recent history of the volcano's exploration. Four new lava flows were created. A large crack with 13 small craters was formed in the southern flank of the mountain. According to the deposits, the eruption was accompanied by pyroclastic and lahar currents .
