Mount Schmid is a 2430 m high mountain in the west Antarctic Ellsworthland . It rises on the south side of the Embree Glacier at a distance of 8 km east of Mount Goldthwait in the Sentinel Range of the Ellsworth Mountains .
The United States Geological Survey mapped it based on its own surveys and with the help of aerial photographs of the United States Navy between 1957 and 1959. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1961 after Captain Ernest A. Schmid of the United States Air Force , who was involved in the construction of the South Pole Station from 1956 to 1957.
