Mount Malone is a 2460 m high mountain in the west Antarctic Ellsworthland . It rises 13 km east of Mount Barden in the northern part of the Sentinel Range of the Ellsworth Mountains . It is the highest peak in Sostra Heights .
The United States Geological Survey mapped it on the basis of its own measurements and with the help of aerial photographs of the United States Navy between 1957 and 1959. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1961 after Captain Wallace R. Malone (1922-2001) of the United States Air Force , who was involved in the construction of the South Pole Station from 1956 to 1957. According to another representation, Donald Van Malone (1935-2005), who was involved in the creation of aerial photographs of the Sentinel Range, is also possible as the namesake.
