Mount Seelig is a 3020 m high mountain in the West Antarctic Ellsworthland . It is the largest and tallest mountain in the Whitmore Mountains and looms at the northeast end of this group.
The American cartographer William Hanell Chapman (1927–2007) mapped it on January 2, 1959 as part of an exploration trip of the United States Geological Survey to the Horlick Mountains between 1958 and 1959. Chapman named the mountain after his colleague Walter Roy Seelig (1919 –2005) from the National Science Foundation , who participated in eleven campaigns under the United States Antarctic Research Program between 1971 and 1986 and was chairman of the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names from 1976 to 1986 .
